How we rank alcohol-free beer
We track 47 alcohol-free beers you can buy in the UK. Every fact on a beer page links to the page we read it from, with the date we read it. If we could not find a fact, we say so. We never estimate.
What we score
- Independent verdicts (40%). Which? blind taste test scores, Alcohol Change UK review stars, placings in national expert-tested lists from the last 18 months, and wins at international competitions such as the World Beer Awards and London Beer Competition from the last 3 years.
- Drinker ratings (25%). The Untappd average, counted only once a beer has 100 or more ratings.
- Value (15%). The lowest UK price per 100ml we found on the check date. We use per 100ml because cans run from 330ml to 500ml.
- Availability (10%). How many major UK shops list it.
- Spec (10%). True 0.0% ABV, gluten-free, under 15 kcal per 100ml, and vegan.
What we do not score
Brand-run reviews, such as a brewer's own website reviews, appear on beer pages as context but do not count. A brand's own award claims count only when the awarding body's page confirms them.
Final placings
The scores inform the order. The final placing, including our pick at number one, is an editorial call. Each beer page shows the evidence so you can judge for yourself.
How often we check
We re-read prices, Untappd averages and new reviews every week and update the date on a page only when something on it changed.
